Addiction doctor home visits at a glance
A home visit is an examination and consultation by a FAVOR doctor at your address in Kyiv. The doctor talks to the person and their family, assesses their condition and explains what kind of help is needed. If an IV drip is appropriate, the doctor says so and gives the price before the procedure starts. If treating at home is unsafe, the doctor recommends inpatient care.
- Exam, talk with the person and family, recommendations
- At the patient’s home, Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast
- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- from 1,500 UAH
When to call an addiction doctor to your home
People call an addiction doctor home when alcohol or other substances have made someone unwell and the family can’t tell how serious it is. A doctor isn’t only there for an IV drip: sometimes it matters more to hear whether it’s safe to stay home and what to do over the next few days. If someone’s life is in danger right now, call 103.
A home visit makes sense when
- The person has been drinking for several days and can’t stop on their own
- They’ve stopped drinking but are shaking, can’t sleep, sweat heavily or feel anxious
- You need to know whether the person can be left at home overnight
- The family wants advice on how to talk to their loved one about treatment
- The person agrees to an exam but isn’t ready to go to a clinic
The doctor will most likely suggest inpatient care when
- Previous binges involved seizures or hallucinations
- The person has used opioids, sedatives or several substances at once
- They have serious heart, liver or kidney disease, or diabetes
- The person lives alone and there’s no one to look after them
What the doctor does not do at home
The doctor on a home visit does not treat anyone against their will and does not diagnose over the phone. The doctor draws conclusions only after an exam. If the person’s condition calls for 24-hour monitoring, the doctor will say so plainly, even if helping at home would be easier.
When to call 103 instead of an addiction doctor
An addiction doctor’s visit is non-emergency care. When someone’s life is at risk, they need an ambulance. Call 103 first, and us afterwards.
- the person is unconscious or can’t be woken up;
- breathing is slow, raspy or has long pauses;
- pupils are very small, lips or nails are bluish;
- seizures have started;
- the person doesn’t recognize family, or sees or hears things that aren’t there;
- chest pain or pressure;
- the person talks about suicide or threatens to harm themselves.
Stay with the person while the ambulance is on its way. If they’re lying down and feel nauseous, turn them on their side.
How an addiction doctor’s home visit works
A home visit starts with a phone call and ends with a concrete plan: what to do today and over the next few days. An IV drip may be part of the visit, but not necessarily. How long each step takes depends on the person’s condition.
-
Phone call
Tell us what happened and what the person has taken. The staff member on duty will tell you whether a visit makes sense, or whether you should call 103 or go to the clinic right away. The call is free.
-
Arrival
The doctor comes to your address.
-
Exam and questions
The doctor talks with the person and the family and assesses consciousness, behavior and general condition. Be honest about what the person took, how much, and what medications they’re on.
-
Conclusion
The doctor explains what’s going on and offers options: stay home with family keeping an eye on them, have an IV drip on the spot, or go to inpatient care. If a paid procedure is needed, you’ll hear the price before it starts.
-
Plan for the next few days
The doctor tells you which signs mean you should call again and answers the family’s questions. Longer-term treatment, such as coding, rehabilitation or work with a psychologist, can be discussed now or later, when the person is ready.

Which doctors make home visits
Home visits are made by an addiction medicine physician from the FAVOR clinic. Categories and years of experience are listed as confirmed by the clinic.
Can I call an addiction doctor anonymously?
Yes, contacting FAVOR is confidential. We don’t share data from website requests with third parties.
- You can call on someone else’s behalf without giving their name.
- The doctor discusses the patient’s condition only with people the patient names.
- How form data is processed: see the “Privacy policy”.
What to do if the person doesn’t want a doctor to come
An adult decides for themselves whether to let a doctor in and whether to agree to an exam. The doctor does nothing by force. But family members can call for advice before the person agrees. That way you’ll have a better idea of what to say and what to expect.
- Talk when the person is more sober, for example in the morning, not in the middle of an argument.
- Describe what you see: “you haven’t slept for three nights,” not “you’re drunk again.”
- Offer something specific: the doctor will just take a look and give advice; nobody’s taking you anywhere.
- Don’t make threats or ultimatums you aren’t prepared to follow through on.
- If the person says no, that’s not the end. You can come back to the conversation later.
- Write down what the person took and how much, what illnesses they have and what medications they take. The doctor will need this.
Families need support too. You can mention this during the call: the clinic has psychologists who counsel families.
Frequently asked questions about addiction doctor home visits
-
How much does an addiction doctor home visit cost in Kyiv?
A doctor’s visit with an exam and recommendations costs from 1,500 UAH. If an IV drip is needed after the exam, it costs from 2,900 UAH, and the doctor quotes the amount before the procedure starts. A visit outside Kyiv costs from 3,400 UAH. Talking to the staff member on duty by phone is free.
-
Is an IV drip required if I call an addiction doctor?
No. The exam is a separate service. Sometimes the doctor sees that an IV drip isn’t needed and monitoring plus recommendations are enough. Sometimes it’s the opposite: home care won’t help, and it’s better to go straight to inpatient care. The doctor decides after the exam, and it’s the person who consents to any procedure.
-
How quickly will the addiction doctor arrive?
It depends on the area, the time of day and how busy the doctors are. If, while you wait, the person loses consciousness, has seizures or their breathing slows, don’t wait for the addiction doctor; call 103.
-
Can I call an addiction doctor if the person used something other than alcohol?
You can call either way, but tell us honestly what exactly the person took. That determines whether it’s safe to help at home. After opioids, sedatives or several substances at once, the doctor most often recommends inpatient care.
-
Can I call an addiction doctor without the person’s consent?
You can call and ask for advice without their consent. But a doctor can examine and treat an adult only if they agree. If their life is at risk, for example they are unconscious, call 103: ambulance crews handle emergencies.
-
How is a doctor’s home visit different from alcohol withdrawal treatment at home?
A doctor’s visit is mainly an exam and advice, with no required procedure. Alcohol withdrawal treatment at home is actual treatment: an exam and an IV drip, if there are no contraindications. If you’re not sure what you need, start with a call. The staff member on duty will help you choose.
-
Can the addiction doctor take the person to the clinic right away?
We’ll explain by phone where the inpatient unit is and how to get there. The clinic’s addresses are on the “Contacts” page.
-
Will the neighbors or their employer find out?
Contacting us is confidential.
